Golden Gate – Clarens

In the foothills of the spectacular Maluti Mountain Range in the Free State Province is the little town of Clarens.  Surrounded by the Maluti mountains, Clarens is renound for attracting tourists from across the globe who are looking for tranquility, piece and cycling though one of the most scenic places that South Africa has to offer.

This 6 day cycle tour is not to be missed.

What you will experience on a tour with Global Cycling Tours in Clarens:

A three day trip from south of Johannesburg to Clarens and a further 3 days in and around the Golden Gate National Park.

The Maloti Route is renowned for it’s unusual sandstone rock formations. First landmark is the famous ‘Mushroom Rock’ just above the Heritage sight of St Fort. Then the ever so obvious ‘Knopkierie’. Also Thaba Bosiu, the impenetrable retreat of Moshoeshoe. This plateau formed a natural fortress that protected the Basothos in times of war.

En route one also encounters the testing 5 km ‘Surrender Hill’ climb from where you capture a view of Mt Horeb on the foothills of which is our ‘Jewel of the Free State’, the little Principality of Clarens.
